Some of you may know that I used to own a small business where I sold jewelry and body butter.
I have closed down that business; however, I am still getting "orders" for body butter.
I am retired from making butters, y'all. LOL
Fortunately, I have decided to share the recipe here so you all can still enjoy the soft body butter formerly used as Muse Essentials' most popular "Body Butter".
What you'll need:
Containers for finished product
Saran/Plastic wrap
Isopropyl Alcohol
Measuring spoons
Spatula/spoon
Electric Mixer
Stove
Freezer/Fridge
Labels (if desired)
And most importantly, a clean sterile work environment.
Instructions:
Put on gloves.
In a glass mixing bowl, add your Ultra Refined Shea Butter and Sweet Almond Oil.
I use a 3.25 oz to 1 fl oz ratio. So, for example, if I am using 26 oz of Ultra Refined Shea Butter, I will add 8 oz of Sweet Almond Oil.
Here's a calculation to determine how much of each product to use:
Ultra Refined Shea Butter amount in ounces divided by 3.25 = Sweet Almond Oil amount in ounces
Sweet Almond Oil amount multiplied by 3.25 = Ultra Refined Shea Butter amount in ounces
Ultra Refined Shea Butter in ounces | Sweet Almond Oil in ounces | Yields finished Body Butter in ounces (approx.) |
8 oz | 2.46 fl oz | 12.31 oz |
16 oz | 4.92 fl oz | 24.62 oz |
20 oz | 6.15 fl oz | 30.78 oz |
24 oz | 7.38 fl oz | 36.93 oz |
26 oz | 8 fl oz | 40.02 oz |
32 oz | 9.85 fl oz | 49.26 oz |
Please note: (Ultra Refined Shea Butter oz + Sweet Almond Oil fl oz) * 1.177 = Finished product in oz
Fill a pot of water enough to double boil the glass bowl without the water boiling into the mix.
Place glass bowl on top of pot and heat on medium-high until the Ultra Refined Body Butter is melted with the Sweet Almond Oil.
Once the mix is completely melted, set aside for a least 5 minutes to begin the cool down phase.
Place Saran wrap or Plastic wrap over the mixing bowl and place in the fridge or freezer. You want to cool the butter completely down until the mixture is opaque and the consistency of Crisco/Lard. This process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the size of the mixture.
Remove Saran wrap and blend using an electric mixer until the entire solid is whipped (about 3-5 minutes).
Add in the cornstarch or arrowroot powder using measuring spoons. I prefer to use 1 tablespoon per 24 oz. This is not a required step; however, it does make your butter more subtle and helps to remove the greasy feel.
Here is where you could add a color additive. I recommend mica powder or an oxide pigment powder because they will not stain your skin. Also, they are easy to add to the butter without jeopardizing the butter's structure.

Add in your choice of fragrance using a fragrance dropper.
I use the 3% ratio to determine how much fragrance to use per batch.
Finished oz * .03 = Fragrance amount in ounces
Here's Wholesale Supplies Plus' Fragrance and Essential Oil Calculator.
Mix well again until the fragrance is thoroughly blended. You should begin to notice an increase in the size of the body butter.
Place Saran wrap back on bowl and place the mixture in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.
Prep containers by spraying Isopropyl Alcohol into them. Let them sit for about a minute and wipe clean with a paper towel.
Remove the mix from the fridge and, with a spoon or spatula, begin portioning into desired containers.
I suggest placing the empty container on a kitchen scale and filling each one with the same amount of product.
Once containers are filled, wipe the cap edge and place the top on. Spray the container with Isopropyl Alcohol and wipe down the outside of the container to prepare for labels.
And you're all done!
Be sure to store your body butter in a cool dry place. This recipe has a shelf life of 24 months.

Whether you are making it for yourself or for others as a gift, I hope you enjoy this simple body butter recipe.
Until next time,
